Why moms are missing from their own family photos

You are usually the one making sure everyone else is in the frame. Here’s why I think that needs to change.

You were there. You should be in the photograph.

There is a strange thing that happens when you become a mother: you become the family historian without realizing it. You take the pictures. You save the videos. You document the birthday cake, the first steps, the messy faces, the school days.

But where are you?

Years later, your children will have hundreds of photographs of their childhood. They will have proof of what they looked like, what they loved, and who they were. I want them to have photographs of the person who was there for all of it, too.

This is not about looking perfect.

It is about being present in the story. Your body after pregnancy. The tired eyes. The laugh lines. The way your child reaches for you. The ordinary clothes. The version of you that existed in this particular season.

Get in the frame.

You do not have to lose ten pounds first. You do not need professional hair and makeup. You do not need to feel photogenic. You just need to let yourself be seen. Someday, I think you will be very glad you did.
